After a long break, the Regional Museum of Jagodina is re-launching the exhibition activity with the exhibition “Birth of Glassmaking in Serbia: Glass from the Collections of the Regional Museum of Jagodina”, which will be opened on Thursday, May 12 at 7 p.m. This exhibition also marks the beginning of the manifestation “Museums for 10”<\/a>, which will be held in almost all museums in Serbia from May 14 to May 20. As part of this event, the European Museum Night will be held on Saturday, May 14.<\/strong><\/p>

This year is specific because it was declared the International Year of Glass<\/a> (IYOG22) by the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. Thus, the whole of 2022 will be dedicated to affirming the role and importance that glass has in science, economy and culture. The territory of the City of Jagodina is the cradle of national production and industrialization of glass in renewed Serbia, because here, on the location between the villages of Mi\u0161evi\u0107 and Belica, the first glassworks<\/a>, the first Serbian factory was founded in 1846. Two and a half decades after the closure of this glassworks, another glass factory was opened in Jagodina. Several years later, it was bought from the owner Julije Bozitovac, a Serb from Pest, by the Jagodina merchant Nacko Jankovi\u0107. This factory supplied glass to consumers throughout Serbia, and had its warehouses in Belgrade, Kragujevac and Ni\u0161, as well as in Prilep and Skopje. It worked until the middle of the first decade of the 20th century, when the production of glass in Serbia, in 1907, was taken over by the Serbian glass factory in Paracin.<\/p>

The Regional Museum of Jagodina joins the celebration of the International Year of Glass with an exhibition that will present glass from museum collections created in the period from late antiquity to the middle of the 20th century, with special emphasis on glass produced in glassworks in Jagodina. Over 80 glass objects from the museum collections of the Archaeological and Art Departments will be presented at the exhibition. The authors of this exhibition are Smiljana Dodi\u0107, archaeologist and Jasmina Trajkov, art historian, museum advisors of the Regional Museum of Jagodina.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
