On Monday, September 30, a celebration was held in the Regional Museum on the occasion of the jubilee – 70 years since the establishment of our institution. The credit for establishing the Museum belongs above all to Dušan Vukićević (1897–1969), a professor of history, whose hard work, enthusiasm and persistence laid the foundations of the museum’s activity in Jagodina. The collection of antiquities that he collected for years at the Teacher’s School, composed of natural history, archeology and history objects, became the nucleus around which the museum fund began to be formed. Becoming the first manager of the Museum, Vukićević popularized it as a cultural institution, museology as a humanistic discipline, and pointed out the need to preserve cultural heritage through his efforts and constant attempts to affirm the museum’s activity through lectures, as well as articles in the local newspaper “Novi put”. Today, the Regional Museum of Jagodina is one of the leading museum institutions in the district, and in terms of the volume of material collected, its importance and the professional and scientific results of research work, it ranks among the important cultural institutions in Serbia.

Numerous colleagues and friends of our institution have helped us in the dedicated work of preserving the past and nurturing culture over the past years. We also presented them with certificates of appreciation at the jubilee ceremony. The special charter of the Regional Museum of Jagodina was awarded to Dragan Marković, President of the Jagodina City Assembly, which was received on his behalf by Bojana Antonijević, Deputy President of the City Assembly. A certificate of appreciation was also handed over to the City Administration of Jagodina, which was received by Mayor Gordana Jovanović.
