In the year when our institution celebrates 70 years of establishment, we can proudly say that during these seven decades, our museum has successfully developed, increased its collections, deepened its research work, and tried to catch up with contemporary developments in the world of museums. Today, we aspire to become part of the local community to which we belong and whose past we inherit, not only as a museum that exists in the city, but also as a place where our fellow citizens will gather and where we will work together on what is important to the members of our local community and in which they enjoy themselves.
That is why we accepted the proposal of Mr. Stanko Ljubanić and the literary society “Mitopeja”, of which he is the editor-in-chief, to organize an evening together in Jagodina, as it is being done this year all over the world, to mark the 70th anniversary of the publication of the book “The Fellowship of the Ring”, the first volume of the most popular and influential works of literature of the 20th century, the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
At the beginning of the program, Mr. Ljubanić, in front of many Tolkien fans, gave an appropriate speech about this English academician, philologist and writer, as well as about his famous epic fantasy novel, which has been printed many times since its first publication and translated into a large number of languages. This was followed by the screening of a documentary film about Tolkien and his fantastic world, prepared by Stanko Ljubanić.
At the end, Mr. Ljubanić presented certificates of appreciation to the Regional Museum, the director Dušan Marković and the employees who participated in the organization of this evening, for which we once again express our warmest thanks.
