The support and financial assistance of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia is necessary for the successful functioning of the museum and the implementation of museum activities. This year, the Regional Museum Jagodina also applied for support at the Competition for financing or co-financing of projects in the field of protection and digitization of cultural heritage in the Republic of Serbia in 2023, which was announced by the competent ministry. The project in the area of archaeological heritage “Systematic archaeological prospecting of the Jagodina region” was excellently evaluated and supported, and the amount of 569,000.00 dinars was approved. The project is a continuation of the activities started last year.
The goal of the project, which is carried out by the experts of the Regional Museum Jagodina in cooperation with the archaeologists of the Archaeological Institute in Belgrade, is the systematic archaeological reconnaissance of the territory of Jagodina and 52 villages, recording, spatial positioning and mapping of archaeological sites from all periods of the past, making a precise archaeological map of the territory of Jagodina and filling in the gaps on the archeological map of Serbia, which is a prerequisite for maintaining unique archeological documentation in terms of recording and protecting locations. Professional and museological processing of mobile archeological material collected in the field, exclusively using non-destructive methods, typological and chronological determination, provides data on the characteristics and distribution of material cultures in Pomoravlje and enriches the museum fund, both with study material and cultural goods.
